Pioneer Center Youth Programs

Who we are -
Pioneer Center Youth Programs is the education outreach division of the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts.

What we do -
We present live performing arts programs in elementary schools and public library branches throughout northern Nevada.  Programs are available to all public, private, charter, and Montessori elementary schools within a 100-mile radius of Reno.  These culturally-rich programs emphasize artistic quality, educational values, and audience participation.

Why we do it -
We are committed to the belief that the arts are an essential part of every child's education and that a person's love and appreciation for the arts stems from his or her earliest experiences. By bringing our artists directly into the schools and libraries, we facilitate an up-close, personal interaction with the arts that many children would otherwise never receive!  As these children grow into adulthood, they will fondly remember these early experiences and will continue to make the arts a part of their lives.

 CORE VALUES
Artistic Quality

Bruka's Theatre for  Children
2010-2011 Season

Your performances have always been awesome. You immediately involve the audience and keep us involved. Your humor is hysterical and the connection or chemistry is awesome. Your energy passes on to the audience and remains for the entire performance. Five star production.

- Teacher, E.M. Johnson Elementary

Erika Paul Carlson Trio
2010-2011 Season

She was excellent with the students. She kept their attention through the entire performance. The students enjoyed it and for many of them, this was their first introduction to jazz. Thank you to the Pioneer for providing our students with this cultural experience!!

- Librarian, Miguel Sepulveda Elementary

Educational Value

The Platt Brothers
2010-2011 Season

Their performance clearly sent a positive message towards becoming a more focused student and in taking control of any situation. I now use their keyword, “enthusiasm,” when presenting the curriculum, and I ask my students how enthusiasm can affect their work when completing an assignment or when setting goals.

- Teacher, Gardnerville Elementary

Xian Na Carlson
2010-2011 Season

It was very educational and related to our home school topic of culture, traditions, and ethnic groups. Loved the group participation and educational information about Chinese culture.

- Parent, Northwest Reno Library

Audience Participation

Kahurangi
2010-2011 Season

This is one of the best Pioneer programs we’ve ever had! The performers were knowledgeable, skilled dancers, singers, and musicians, and displayed incredible costumes. Their interaction and rapport with the audience was excellent and we all enjoyed the chance to dance with them.”

- Librarian, Incline Village Library

Reno Irish Dance Company
2010-2011 Season

Inviting students of all ages to perform is a good idea. It helps to show that no matter your age, you can do anything. The arts are so needed and these performances are encouragement to the students.

- Teacher, Hidden Valley Elementary
